Cataract Surgery at Brazos Eye Surgery of Texas

Cataract surgery is a life-changing procedure. It will improve your ability to do the things you enjoy and, in many cases, allow you to do things you couldn’t do before. Our patients find their surgery to be an overall pleasant and virtually pain-free experience. Your Waco cataract surgeon will use every means possible to ensure your comfort throughout the surgery.

What Is A Cataract?

When the lens inside the eye becomes cloudy (less transparent), it is called a cataract. Light can’t pass through it correctly, so vision becomes dull and blurred. Cataracts can develop at any age, but are typically a normal part of the aging process. Symptoms can be very subtle at first, but as a cataract develops, you may experience blurred or dim vision, difficulty reading, glare, halos around lights (especially at night), decreased ability to appreciate vivid colors, and feeling like your glasses need cleaning or frequent changes in your eyeglass prescription. Sometimes cataracts grow so slowly that patients aren’t even aware of how bad or advanced they are until they are removed and replaced with a new, clear lens.

Cataract Eye

How Is It Treated

Surgery is the only way to remove a cataract and restore clear vision. Your cloudy lens is replaced with a clear, permanent implant called an intraocular lens (IOL). With today’s technology, your surgeon can safely remove your cataract, and implant a replacement lens to restore your vision. Learn why adding the LENSAR® Laser System to your advanced cataract procedure is the superior decision for your vision.

Patients can chose from traditional cataract surgery or laser cataract surgery. Patients that decide to undergo traditional cataract surgery will most likely still need to wear glasses for clear vision. For patients with astigmatism, a Toric lens is available to also correct the refractive error during cataract surgery.
